In March 2018 YouTube plans on introducing a new music streaming service so as to not be left in the dust by rivals Spotify and Apple, as reported by Bloomberg.
Spotify-like, on-demand streaming is expected to be part of the platform codenamed ‘Remix’, in addition to other elements from YouTube, like video clips.
Google Play Music, which was first launched in 2011, will most likely be replaced by ‘Remix’, no matter whichever brand it officially decides to take on.
Lyor Cohen, the worldwide music boss of Google, has already spoken in the past about the possible fusing of Google Play Music’s paid service with elements of YouTube.
