Tips for using Twitter to boast your music career

Once you’ve created your Twitter page, the main thing is to then get it linked up with all the social media pages the rest of your musicians or band might have. Multiple pages for your band helps Google and other search engines to recognize and prioritize your pages. Ideally, all of your slug URLs should line up just so, like this:

Facebook.com/mybandname
Twitter.com/mybandname
SoundCloud.com/mybandname

Don’t even think about Tweeting or following friends until you have important aspects like your graphic assets in order, and make sure all pertinent information you have to give is included in your profile, such as: an upcoming release you’re promoting, live performances, or even a single.

Now comes Tweet time. Keeping active on Twitter is what it’s all about. A fantastic way of creating community and a buzz can happen through joining into a conversation of someone that you yourself follow. Don’t sweat it though if you don’t hear back, in the end you will be the only one to know if you don’t, so no harm in trying to reach out in the end. Posting about being on the road and on tour is key, and happens to be what most people love to follow the most while sitting at their computer at work. So go ahead and share your journeys and let your followers live vicariously through you!

As soon as your profile looks tight and enticing, you can start building numbers by following some of your friends, favorite bands, blogs, or any relevant music editors that may happen upon your page. Try hooking up also with fans of artists that have a similar sound to yours, that way you can start following them too.
