Upload your music and sell through digital distribution

How to upload and distribute music online

Digital music distribution is often referred to as making your music available to streaming services as well as downloading platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon, Pandora, and so on. An artist needs a distribution service that can help him or her upload their music on several such platforms, irrespective of the fact that you are looking to sell your first music album or your 50th album being a popular singer. Every artist who wishes to reach out to maximum audiences and fan base is required to appoint a distributor or an aggregator to spread across their music.

In order to reach out to maximum possible fans, many artists look out for the most suitable digital platforms where they can upload and promote their music. Everybody wants to get their music on Apple Music to start with. This is because of its widespread popularity and reach, along with instillation of a brand name in the minds of users. Thus, as a musician, whether indie or signed with any record label, one always looks for an aggregator who can get their music on this digital platform along with other significant platforms. At the same time the artist would look for a music distributor, who can help the artist to get their song on multiple platforms as it would be difficult for him or her to reach out to different distributor connected with different music streaming and downloading platforms.

Once you have found the right music distributor, you are required to sign up an agreement with them, complying by the terms of your exchange. Through an agreement, both the artist as well as the distribution company is aware of what the other person’s role is going to be. An artist is required to send the decided number of tracks to the distributor in the pre-agreed format, who in turn, uploads these tracks to the digital music websites like Apple, Spotify, Google Play Music, etc. after the required mixing or additional moderations made with the artist. The role of the distributor is extremely important as big, renowned platforms like Apple Music or Spotify have a lot of specifications and criteria and hence, for the ease of doing business, they prefer not deal with individual musicians, and seek to connect with professionals on behalf of the artists.

Once uploaded on such popular platforms, the work of the artists become visible to the world, who can easily share, download or stream your work on these platforms by means of becoming subscribers to these service providers. In this way, Apple or Spotify, or any other popular service provider becomes a fan of your art and you gather the fan base for yourself.
