Project Boombox: Spotify and Facebook teamed up to share music

“Project Boombox”, the new Spotify-Facebook audio player

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that very soon, Facebook will launch a Spotify Driven audio player. Named as “Project Boombox,” this audio player will provide the listeners access to music and podcasts from Spotify on the Facebook platform. It is easy for artists to now share their content on Facebook.

Facebook will also add some more features like this, but as of now, only Spotify is associating with it. As per a statement issued by Spotify, they want to spread Spotify’s reach across other platforms and devices and bring music to more people. This association with Facebook is one of the many steps that the company is planning.

However, it is unclear how they will integrate within Instagram and other apps owned by Facebook.

Facebook also added an audio short messaging app named Soundbites and will bring Clubhouse with an app of their own. There are reports that Facebook will move further into increasing such features. They will add the ability to stream podcasts natively within their app. Facebook already has a high reach.

170 million Facebook users can already access the hundreds and thousands of podcasts available on the app. Around 35 million are members of various podcast fan groups.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that Facebook is treating audio as the next medium in demand. He also said that the audio segment could also have different types of products that they could introduce. Mark also said there would be some areas that have gained popularity in the last few years, like Podcasts and live audio rooms, but there are still a lot of aspects that are still untouched and can be worked around with.

Conclusion

Facebook is known to start new and revolutionary concepts every now and then. Their association with Spotify is a fun idea for both listeners and artists. Listeners would get an easy platform to hear their music and artists can hope for more exposure. Unknowingly this is a win-win situation for both the parties involved.

As the markets develop further, Facebook and Spotify will add more features like this. Apart from that, Facebook will keep spreading its wings and bringing innovations that would make music listening to a pleasure to its users. All this will happen relatively soon, and the music lovers would surely welcome these changes with open arms.
