Beatport and DJcity create Beatsource
Beatport has vast years of experience in the music industry and they are always open to new and better chances to experiment further. Recently Beatport has tied up with DJcity to create one platform where DJ’s can find a strong foothold.
Beatport, as everyone knows, has nearly 7.2 million music tracks, 35 million unique users and more than 65000 record label associations. On the other hand, DJcity is the world’s only site where the DJ’s can unravel new music and get modified versions of the tracks.
However, the music industry has not been fair to the DJ’s as so far there has not been one place where they get all the albums. The stores that are there are all copies of other content catalogs. There is not a dedicated curation service for the DJ’s and it is this need that Beatport and DJcity planned to resolve.
This new platform would have three key features:
- Store- A curated download store
- Streaming- DJ hardware and software integration with the help of Beatport’s Link technology
- Promo- A fully integrated and promotional subscription
The association between the two was announced in February this year and currently the Beatsource store and Beatsource Link are in the process of being launched. By the first quarter of next year, the companies want to unravel the Beatsource Promo tier which would complete the task at hand.
When the solution would be finally launched there are multiple benefits that the DJ’s would get to enjoy. Some of them are:
- One platform for all the open format, mobile and hobby DJ’s all over the world.
- Excellent curation of playlists by a team of professional DJ’s
- Full access to data of all the DJ’s
- Music moving from one platform to another easily
There are some genres on which the service has already been working. This includes popular ones like hip hop, pop, r&b, dance, Latin and Reggae/dancehall. In future, more variety of genres and types of songs shall be included in the platform.
So far the types of playlists have been defined such that every person gets something to experiment with. There would be a weekly internally curated list of tracks which has a fixed number of tracks in it and would be different each week. Another one is a playlist based on any particular theme like Hip-hop and here the number of tracks would be more. You also have playlists based on any occasion and they are updated randomly. Last is the externally curated playlist which would never have a constant number of tracks.
